- Jump the shark
- Descriptive phrase based on the "Happy Days" television show where Fonzi tries to overcome his fear of sharks by jumping over one on water skis. It supposedly indicates when a show has run out of legitimate story ideas.
Usage: "Dan Rather's response to his critics has really jumped the shark."
- Tin-foil hat
- noun. A tin-foil hat is supposed to protect the wearer from the mind-control of aliens. Plans are available on the net. It is used to describe people who have lost touch with reality.
