Unanimously, student representatives trumped a Faculty Senate attempt at political correctness with Student Free Speech Rebellion at the University of Alabama [Hat tip to "Volokh Conspiracy"]. The students reminded the faculty: WHEREAS, In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it"; In another entry, Volokh Conspiracy differentiates the issue for readers, "What the links make clear is that the [Ward] Churchill case is not about the freedom to express unpopular views about U.S. policy; it's about a consummate fraud and bully..." |
