Which peace to give a chance
| Which peace to give a chance |
| Instapundit found himself behind a car bearing a bumpersticker that opined, "War Is Costly. Peace Is Priceless". Ambiguities of language conflate two meanings for peace and lead to misunderstanding.
Peace can either mean: - Establishment of a process of peaceful problem resolution, or
- Preservation of the status quo regardless of any inequities or oppression.
If those invoking "peace" would declare themselves in favor of one or the other it would help distinguish liberal thinkers (the former) from reactionaries in liberal clothing (the latter). |
