Posted by Webmaster, 3/15/10 at 8:25:39 AM. The Rome Free Academy Jazz Ensemble earned a gold rating at the Oneida Jazz Festival on March 5. Shelby Bird was placed as first tenor with her solos in both "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Cottontail". Jack Chesebro was recognized for his solo on flugelhorn in "Spain" and on trumpet in "Cottontail". Erin Bojanek was named as an All Star for her flute work in "Spain". Other RFA All Stars include Stephanie Mata on piano, Kevin Li on trombone, Nick Dixon on trumpet, and Jillian Gardner on baritone sax. The Jazz Festival was judged by world renowned musicians, who use a point system, point totals are then equated to Bronze, Silver, or Gold rankings. Also earning gold in the AA class were ensembles from New Hartford and Chittenango. The RFA Jazz band will be presenting their annual spring jazz concert on Tuesday, May 25, at 7pm in the RFA auditorium.
