• In recognition of Ayla's birthday today, students were encouraged to wear blue and white, colors of teenage cancer.


RFA Blows up in the Science Fair by Jacob Crofoot

Continuing the tradition of the science fair for the 53rd consecutive year, the students of Rome Free Academy proved they had smarts in the field of science. The fair was held on Saturday, March 6, and RFA students received eight category awards and two specialty awards for their participation. Winners from R.F.A. came under the categories of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Microbiology, Physics, Space Sciences, and Zoology. Under specialty awards, freshmen Brett McKinney won the DESTINY award with his ≥Catapult,≈ which also won second place in the field of Engineering. Also, senior Kevin Li won third place, thus receiving an HP ten-inch laptop, in the ≥Best of Fair≈ awards with his project ≥Investigations on Protist Motility.≈ His project also won him first under the category of Microbiology. Senior, Amanda Kaier≠s project, ≥Bugs versus Meat,≈ won first in Biochemistry. In Chemistry, sophomore Derek Sexton won first with ≥The Chemistry of Coke and Mentos.≈ Joseph Pasaqualetti won first in Computer Science with ≥Joslin Ultrasound Atlas.≈ Also, a team of juniors, consisting of Amanda Ingalls and Lauren Bendall, also received first in Space Sciences with ≥Planetary Magnetism.≈ Awards for second place were given to freshman Barry Li with ≥2 Cool 2 Resist≈ in Physics, and to sophomore Connor Richie with his ≥Evolution of Champion Chickens/Selective Breeding≈ in Zoology. Prizes for first place consisted of $100.00, and those who placed second received a gift of $75.00.
