Disney Pixar's UP Goes Above And Beyond
By Karina Swanson
With such box office hits as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Wall-E Disney Pixar's latest 3D film UP is nothing short of a masterpiece. From start to finish this movie does not disappoint. Even Pixar's signature animated short was one of its best.
It is amazing how a cartoon with absolutely no dialogue can capture an audience through pure emotion and actions. Each stork picks up baby animals from fluffy and cheerful clouds to deliver. One gray cloud however, does not have much luck.
As the others have cute harmless animals the gray cloud makes alligators, rams, porcupines, and electric eels which give his stork quite a challenge. Beaten up and in pain, the stork flies away to another cloud leaving the gray one raining. Just when viewers start feeling sorry for the cloud the short ends as the stork returns with football gear to protect itself and to get the job done.
The movie begins in the 1930s with the dream of a little boy and girl, a dream of adventure. As the movie progresses into modern times, that little boy is now 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, who finds himself in some trouble.
Suddenly it is now or never to finally get to Paradise Falls for a final adventure by an odd mode of transportation. Carl and his house-balloons and all-rise into the sky.
Just when he thinks he is trouble free, Russell, the 8-year-old wilderness explorer, knocks on the door frightened as ever. Now Carl has to deal with a little boy and the unorthodox characters they meet along the way to his destinations so much for getting away from it all. But when one of their new friends are in danger, Carl and Russell must now work together on the ULTIMATE adventure testing their relationship and morals to save their friend.
The 3D in this movie is astounding. Unlike other movies, Disney has actually given a reason to pay extra money for it and not just to see a fence in the viewers face. The film makers think about everything to the last detail. From sound effects to body movements to detail in a setting, there were no flaws in this quality.
The voice actors include seven time Emmy winning Ed Asner as Carl Fredricksen, legendary Christopher Plummer as Charles F. Muntz, new to the film industry nine-year-old Jordan Nagai, and Disney Pixar veteran Bob Peterson not only provide the voices for Dug and Alpha but has also co-direct this film. The actor's voice expressions are perfect. After a while a viewer can forget that Carl and Russell are cartoons and not real people.
Overall if you have not gone to see this movie yet, then I'm guessing you were just waiting for the line at the theater to die down, because otherwise you will be missing out on a great piece of Pixar history.
