Contributing Reader Code of Ethics:
- The contributing reader is accurate. There is no place for distortion, false information, assumption, or prediction.
- The contributing reader is forthright and will plainly identify him- or herself as such while gathering information and will clearly explain to sources being interviewed the purpose of the information gathered.
- The contributing reader is honorable. Information must be gathered by legitimate means, must not violate personal privacy, and will not be a personal attack.
- The contributing reader is civil. There is no place for abusive, vulgar, or offensive language.
- The contributing reader is responsible. He or she immediately apologizes to readers for details that are wrong.
The contributing reader agrees:
- Editorial authority belongs to the Rome Sentinel and the Rome Sentinel can freely use what is submitted without restriction.
- All information about each of my articles will be shared with the Rome Sentinel.
- Since I am not an employee of the Rome Sentinel, I will not produce name cards suggesting a formal working relationship with the Rome Sentinel.
- If an article I submit has or will be simultaneously submitted elsewhere, I will clearly state this fact to the Rome Sentinel.
- If quotations are used in the text, all sources will be accurately revealed.
- Public relations or marketing personnel will disclose this fact to their readers.
- Acts of plagiarism or unauthorized use of material are intolerable and legal responsibility lies entirely with the contributing reader.
- Defamation in articles is unacceptable and legal responsibility lies entirely with the contributing reader.
