I've cross-posted this on a number of websites...forgive the repetitiveness...
for the next year, starting the first week of July, 2006 --- 52 weeks, i will produce one completed painting a week.
yes,
it's a little insane considering the workload i have already--- but,
when you need to do something you need to do something...
the
only parameters i have set for myself is that the painting must be on
canvas or canvas board. there are no size restrictions. so, one week if
i'm pressed for time i'll do a small piece on 9x12 canvas
board---conversely, if i have a few days off in a week, i'll knock out
a 24x36 or a 36x48 canvas.
this journey will begin and end with a self-portrait.
why
do you want to do this frank? this is why: i produce a 7 day a week
comic strip called bob the squirrel. stories that i use in the strip
are 90% taken from my life. but, they don't tell the "whole story." the
real life situations are merely jumping off points for me to play with.
in other words, i can only stretch the situation in certain directions
within the bob the squirrel world. my recent rediscovery of painting
has awakened a creative outlet that three panels a day can't contain.
while the comic strip will remain my first love, i've come to realize
that there is more to me than just a comic strip or an editorial panel.
each week, as i complete a painting i will photograph it and post it to this page.
hopefully, by july 2007, you will be able to see my progression as both
an artist and person...plus, i may just get better at painting.
