Posted by Frank Page, 5/6/06 at 7:37:18 AM. we lost another hometown hero.  i wish i knew elisha parker personally.  i wish i knew them all personally.

parker:

i drew this cartoon on national cartoonists day.  i thought about what i could possibly do from the moment i read the story 6:30am that morning.  how do you sum up something so personal, so tragic in a single image? how can one image speak louder that all the text on the page?  all the sketches in the world mean nothing when they say nothing.

sometimes you just have to go with your gut, grab your pen and let your hand and heart take over from your brain.  first thoughts are usually the best.  i finished this drawing in less than an hour.

and hopefully, my time can give the family of this marine some comfort.  maybe my little drawing can make the sting of loss less painful for a brief moment.  if so, i've done my job.
