Posted by Frank Page, 4/24/06 at 12:05:26 PM. in my line of work, i get all kinds of email from all over the planet.  some of it is good, some of it not so good.  you cherish the good you get and you deal with the bad... it's part of the job.
i don't usually let the bad ones get to me--- there is no way you are going ot please everyone with what you draw.  even charles schulz and bill watterson had (have) their detractors...
i got something this weekend that i let get to me.  i can't even categorize it as bad---it was good and bad--- and it made me think...those that make you think are usually the worst.  this person, in a nutshell, said that my 4/23/06 bob the squirrel panel looked as though it lacked effort.  i had to step back and think about that... had i spent less time that usual on this week's sunday panel?  no...was it not the funniest gag in the world--- it was chuckle-worthy... not a belly tickler but not a total dud either.

i learned a long time ago that you will never hit a homerun every single time you sit at the drawing board--- you'll get some singles, some doubles and a lot of triples...on occasion you'll take the walk and a few strike outs...  as john popper so perfectly put it: "there's no such thing as a failure that keeps trying"

trying to hit 365 homeruns every single year will only get you sore.  you do your job, you do it the best you can and then the next day you do it again.  it's as simple as that.  if people dig it--- rock on... if not, there's always tomorrow.
