Posted by Frank Page, 4/6/06 at 9:18:59 AM. this past week i did something a little different with my comic strip.  because last saturday was april fool's day i thought it would give me the perfect opportunity to start a slow burn--- that is to say, build up a story so much that when you get to the punchline, five strips later, you will either love me or hate me.

so, after clearing it with the appropriate people (my girlfriend), i wrote a week of strips where frank and angie break up & bob and frank have to pack up their gear and move out.  now, in my head, i'm loving this direction.  this will take my readers on a rollercoaster.  cool, very cool.

last week the strips start running. bear in mind, i work ahead--- so what you read last week was completed almost 5 weeks ago.  people that i interact with on a daily basis were wondering but not really saying anythng to me--- those that did ask were only given a "read tomorrow's strip" answer.  they know that a good portion of my material comes directly from my life.

no one figured it out until thursday.

when the saturday punchline rolled around, man, did i get emails!

the way i see it, a cartoonist has two primary jobs: 1. tell a story and 2. envoke some sort of emotion in your reader.  last week i did pretty good with both of them.

the wedding is still on :-)
